Cruise Control - Not Working

Cruise Control not working.

Coach has not been driven since Sept 2013 after returning from a trip.
I checked 15 amp cruise control fuse in chassis fuse panel - not blown.

Coach currently not in my driveway so will have to wait a couple of days to try and correct problem with any comments from this forum.

Appreciate all suggestions.

  • Problem Solved!

I checked fuses not blown and brake lights working, all good.

Driving home, I tried again to engage Cruise Control - no go.

As mentioned in the thread, try lifting up on the brake pedal while engaging Cruise - it worked. Cruise kicked back out when upward holding motion was released from the brake pedal.

I pulled over to the side and found a plastic switch that makes contact with the brake pedal when pedal pressure is released. This switch has a plunger that is pushed through a receptacle far enough to make contact with the brake pedal. This switch is not secured by a nut (that I can see) and over time retracted a bit so as not to make contact with the brake pedal. I may have to check this out further. Seems only friction holds it "in" far enough to make contact with the brake pedal. As soon as I pushed it through the receptacle far enough, it made contact with the pedal and Cruise worked fine.

Thank to all that that responded.
  • All good comments and I appreciate it. I will start troubleshooting tomorrow when I pick up the coach.
I will get back to this forum when I know more.
    Thanks.
  • Make sure the bulb in the brake / stop light works and is not burnt out. In some chassis that will keep your cruise from working
  • on my ford chassis the VSS (variable speed sensor???) would go bad and cruise wouldn't work.

  • Long shot and different equipment, but our cruise stopped working on our DP. I went through all of the usual culprits mentioned above. I then cycled the set switch forcefully about a dozen times and problem solved. No issues on the last couple of trips.

  • Check to make sure brake pedal is returning fully and allowing the switches that control brake lights and the cruise mechanisms to engage/disengage. I had and from time to time still have an issue with the cruise not working AND brake lights staying on. I pull back on the pedal and lights go out and cruise starts to work.
