Cube Fridge in basement

I'm thinking of putting a small dorm or cube fridge in the basement of my Damon. For years I've carried one to set up along with my outdoor kitchen once we've reached our camping destination. It's nice to keep the cold drinks and jello shots ;)where there is easy access from outside.

I'm wondering if anyone else has done this with any success or is there too much bouncing around while on the road for the refrigerator to work? Measuring one of my basement compartments it will fit if I build up a base so that I can open the door. The next issue will be running power to it. I'm not seeing any obvious power outlets or wiring where I can splice in an outlet.

I'm interested in any thoughts or suggestions.
  • I have friends that did this in there Tiffin! Bolted down freezer in storage compartment drilled a hole and ran a wire with fuse to the battery.

Battery? Will dorm fridges run on 12v?
  • Look at the truck fridge, they are pricey but nice. I have one and use it all the time, can even be used as a freezer, and will run off 12v or 120.
  • We have a 50 quart ARB fridge/freezer in our basement. Runs on 12/24/120 volts.

Made for harsh environments and not effected by bouncing around.
  • DW and I will do this upgrade for sure. Many of these units on the market like the link above!!! :)
  • We have done exactly what the OP is contemplating and had it work well. Our location was made easy since the compartment lip was low enough that there was no need to shim up the unit for door clearance and there was a 110 outlet right there for power. The only thing that might make it easier would be side hinged compartment doors. (maybe)
  • I did this on a 2005 Allegro Bus. Regular dorm frige. I didn't bolt it down and never had a problem. 110 receptacle was already in the bay. Great for my Michelob Lite!!
  • We carry a similar size freezer in the basement. Works well, although 110 volt system.
