Damage from wax

I am having my Motorhome (30ft entry level holiday Rambler) washed and waxed this month. It has decals for the stripping. Being a 2010 it is still in good condition, and I want to keep it so with a minimum of work or in this case, expense.

Will the wax do any harm to the decals ?

Is there any advice as what is best to use ? On my last rig 10 years ago, I had pretty good luck with 303.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, ron
  • Most products that contain petroleum distillates can remove the decal adhesive and are not recommended. One exception is Protec-all (www.protectall.com/?) which contains wax and uv blocks and is recommended for all rv surfaces when used as directed. Good luck1

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Most agree, except one, that applying wax to my decals might damage them.

I went to the detail shop and ask about it. This is a one man show that has been in business 7 years in my small town of 8000. He said that in his experience, he has never had a problem with decals coming off because of wax. He was willing to do the 303 but said that if it were his, he would use the wax first and then the 303 every 2 0r 3 months. He does everything by hand.

I ask if the type of wax might make a difference and he said he didn't think so as most had the same components.

Just thought I would pass this on..

Thanks for answering my initial question....ron

Yes, it will make them peel. To prevent it, don't apply the wax to the decals. You can use Aerospace 303 protectant to keep protect them. In fact, you can use Aerospace 303 on the whole coach instead of wax. There are several guys around here who use it on their older coaches and they look great!
X-2, I use Aerospace #303 very easy to use restores luster and has a UV protectant in it. You can buy it at your local Cabelas Store.

It's the sun that fades, cracks and shrinks them.

That's why it is important to use a product that has a UV protector in it.

In my case it's because of where I store it. It gets almost no sun on the sides or back. I also cover the TT during the winter.
The stickers on the front started failing within a couple of years because they get sun all afternoon. So I removed them and had the front cap painted.
I used Turtle Wax and Meguiars to wax.

  • Wax is good for paint. Not for fiberglass or decals.
My guess would be that your "entry level" wouldn't have the full paint that the higher end coaches would have.
There are special products made for the fiberglass and decals. Well worth the money.
After all, you've got a pretty good investment in your RV...why not spend you money to do it right?

    Good luck:)

  • Rejex. Great for repelling bugs and such and repels dirt and road grime. Easy on and off. REJEX
