Damon Intruder engine cover lock key

On my 1997 Damon Intruder there are four locks, two on the engine cover and two on the rear cover. The locks aren't true locks so the key is more of a handle that looks like the old barrel keys. I don't have that key and would like to know if there is any place that I can buy them?

  • Let me know if you have a problem getting one, I may have one in a drawer or tool box somewhere....Dennis
  • bsinmich: yes it would be easier. I didn't know were to get one so if I couldn't find one then I would have to make one. That wouldn't be a problem for me as I am a metal fabricator and have fabricated parts for everything from forklifts to parts for the Voyager satellite. But Thanks to Executive I know were to get one. I just bought my Intruder and the last owner couldn't find the key so I didn't even know what they look like.. Thanks to everyone here for taking the time to help me with this problem your are all great people.

    Explorer III
Southco Key E3-5-15 more than likely.

I would hazard a guess that many RV dealers have a basket of 'em under the counter if you but ask

The "Key" is "Coded" but the code looks like a universal key exists

The lock is not a lock I can take a pair of needle nose plies and open the lock with those so I think any barrel key will work. I think if I can get a small piece of tubing (metal) that has the same inside diameter as the center piece of the lock I maybe able to make my own key. If can I will post it.

Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a key?
  • Dennis has it right.

The key pictured in the link he posted is an exact match to my Damon barrel key, right down to the key code displayed.

  • I was getting some spare keys made at a locksmith last week and noted they had a broad selection of "barrel" keys behind the counter. I took note because like you I own a Damon and that style key opens the doghouse and front engine access panel.

The locksmith said that if you have an original key bring it in and they can likely match or if no key bring the motorhome in and they would see what they can do to match things up. Worst case senario they drill out the existing and install new locks with keys.

You will eventually need to open those locks and it is way less stressful to deal with the problem at your leisure than during a crisis.

    Good luck
