Brian, you said the positive cable to one of your batteries was very HOT. You also found one end LOOSE. I'm assuming that was the same cable that was HOT. Correct? Why did you replace the cable? Was it damaged? Worn? What?
The other red flag I noticed was that the batteries are new. Did you install them yourself? Are they installed correctly? Did you check ALL the cables for tightness? Are ALL the cable ends clean as well as the battery posts?
Normally a battery cable will heat up if it's not making good contact with the battery post while charging. It's possible, due to that loose connection that you've toasted that particular battery. Remove the caps and see if any of the batteries are boiling. Use CAUTION while doing so as battery acid in the eyes is not a good thing! Think safety glasses or use a mirror. A boiled battery indicates one or more bad cells. I would concentrate on the battery that had the loose cable but don't rule out the others.
