Dead batteries

My batteries are not charging while iam plugged in.they charge fine while motorhome running,and when generator running any ideas?

    something odd there. Defintely sounds like your converter is bad if it's only putting out 9V, BUT...when you're genset is running, it should be working the same as when plugged in, meaning the genset is powering the converter which would charge the batts.

    So if the converter only puts out 9V on shore power, it should only put out 9V w/gennie running.

    X2 check the voltage on the converter, output while genny running if it is 9 Volts or intermittent, I would suspect the converter charger portion needs replacing.

  • well 9v won't charge a 12v battery, you need 14v
    sounds like you need a new converter

    what is the make/model of the bad one
    from 1975 i'm guessing a magtec 6300 series
    which only has a 6 amp trickle charge anyway
  • Have you checked your batteries with a vom meter? Have you cleaned the connections? Have you checked the output of your converter charger with a vom meter?
