Deal on the Coachmen 2009 27RS fell thru

Well the dealer is in the unit so deep that 6 new tires , a spare and the brake controller as well as some trim repairs cannot be done w/out my participation.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

We are now looking at a 2014 Fleetwood Tioga Montara. My proposed deal with the trade I had offered before at the same value would net him $64,925 for the 25k model with the V10 engine. Do you think this provides the dealer with a reasonable margin? (he already is 'stealing' my trade)?

The second question is which engine on this unit is the best choice- 5.4V8 or the V10?

My primary choice for this unit is not to have a dinghy as I would use Enterprise for a longterm stay/sightseeing and do without a Toad. In future I might tow a Jon Boat for Florida park stays and would not need a dinghy.

My question is should I buy with the larger motor (work less hard for travel w/o the dinghy (anticipating future towing) or buy with the smaller engine knowing it will 'work harder' when I do tow.

We are currently doing about 15k per year with our fiver and it will probably go up when not towing.

It wasn't worth following through on the Coachmen ? It would seem a shame to pass up a good deal for a $1500 or so difference. Naturally you're going to be paying a lot more for a new Fleetwood, or new anything.

sounds sorta like the old, cut off your nose to spite your face. six new tires, brake controller, why not a lifetime supply of free gasoline?
    bumpy
  • If you're looking at a unit with a $75,000 MSRP, you should be paying somewhere around $55,000 and the dealer is still making money.
I'd go for the V10 in that motor home.
I wouldn't be concerned with how much the dealer is making, if he's not making enough, there's no deal.

  • I checked NADA and with the V-10 option (the only one that affects the price) the MSRP is $75,539.

Using 23% of the MSRP it would seem the dealer cost is $58,088 so a deal that nets him 15% would be 8$66,801 and a 10% deal would be $63,897 so I think my offer that nets him $64,925 is fair.

The dealer is 'stealing' my '10 Rockwood 8285WS as he will have 14k in it and the NADA low retail is @22,880 and the high is $27,565 so they should make money.

It is hard to 'figure' trailer values and I guess the definitive value is really the Manheim auction but us 'civilians' cannot and do not have the expertise to track the prices.

I will post to let you know how I make out.
  • NADA has a bluebook for motorhomes but you're probably better off looking for similar rigs on craigslist, ebay, or at ppl motorhomes. You should be able to buy the new one for 22-23% below MSRP.

Our 5.4 works great! As a matter of fact I'm surprised how good it works. Having said that it might be working to hard. If had to do over I would go with V10. We leave driveway at 10,380 pounds and no problems and over 100,000 miles but that thing has to be working harder than I would like it to.
  • I should have asked is there a site that can give you a fair price for a unit like Edmonds for a car?
