DEF (diesel exhaust fluid)

I don't have to buy DEF often as we have a 16 gallon tank (235 gallon fuel tank).

I want to ask those of you who buy DEF at the truck island, do you find that the fuel handle constantly cuts off? It will allow me to put in about 3/10's of a gallon then cut off. Sometimes the handle won't allow me to start after 5-6 clicks. I have to repeat and repeat until it's full.

This has been my experience since I started buying DEF, doesn't matter which fuel station. I just want to know if it's just me or are these fuel pumps quirky.

(please, hold your comments that you are glad that you don't have to buy DEF) Thanks

Safe travels,
MM.

Hummmm... same here. No problem at all.

  • Some pumps don't have the magnet and you have to go inside and ask the clerk for it.
  • I thought that maybe the magnetic top of the DEF tank could be causing it to stop...without that magnet working right, it wont allow the pump to keep going....I'm grasping at straws Mark, but I do know if that magnet is not right, it won't let the switch on the pump start the DEF....

  • Haven't had an instance where it clicked off before the tank was full.

I usually forget to set the ignition key to accessory when I get out and my DEF gauge isn't working when I add DEF. I fill the DEF tank slowly with my finger on the trigger, so to speak, and don't let the pump go on "automatic".

  • I have a similar experience, but I find that filling the tank slower helps.
