I had some fellow RVers up here in MN say Pioneer Park in Wellton AZ was a great place to spend the winter, weather was great, and very reasonable. I just had some people for neighbors for the weekend and they described Yuma as an "armpit". Wellton is like 26 miles from Yuma, about 2 hours from Phoenix. I stayed in Alabama last winter and did not like all the rain. Anyone have and information on this?

Yuma is a haven for 80 year old's and up seems like to me. I lived there and they would be pulling a Toad and drive from the right lane into Kmart parking lot, no turn signal, and wonder why everyone was screaming mad. It is fairly quiet except at 4 PM when everyone goes to the Corral for early dinner.Yuma has a fair share of Chinese and Mexican Restaurants and 5 Guys but a good burger there is a rarity. I like 5 Guys but they are becoming too expensive at $9 for a burger and soda. There is nothing to do in Yuma except go somewhere else. LOL

we have one friend who arrives at the Golden Corral just before 3:30 with a book. This way he and spouse get dinner for the lunch price.
    You brought back the memory:)
  • Some, if not most, of the resorts in Yuma do have activities scheduled. Since we don't want to be 'organized' we stop there long enough to get supplies we need then go on to San Felipe ( Baja ). We get settled in and I go fishing or desert roaming and Ms. Donna does crafts, etc. Most days we walk the beach for 3 miles or so. For us, it doesn't get any better than that.

  • I did reserve a spot in Pioneer Park near Wellton. Like I said before, the people that stayed there last year said it was great. And yes, the people that liked it were older and the ones that didn't like it were younger, maybe in their 30s. I want quiet and don't need a lot of night spots so it sounds great for me. Near a lot of things if we want to take a day trip. Thanks for the info.

Yuma is a garden spot compared to Wellton. Don't know where you heard that Yuma was an "armpit." Take a look at this link. Really a first class resort in Yuma. Spent the winter there last year.

    Safe travels.
  • If you want to go to Yuma, if it is anything like years past, you need to get reservations because lots of folks like it. Several years ago we tried to get a place to stay in Yuma and had to stay in Wellton AZ. Don't remember the name of the park which was not great, but it did have friendly people and we liked it for the two weeks we stayed. Lots of people paid the annual rent for their spots. Yuma is not an arm pit but different people have different tastes. I would judge the individual people who have the opinions rather than the city.
