diesel additives

My Cummins 8.3 has a little over 77 k miles on it..
I filled the fuel tanks when we retuned home a little 2 years ago.
we have had health issues plus the Covid restrictions .

SO.

Should I use a diesel additive prior to taking a trip?

which one ?
  • Use it prior to and every tank full thereafter. I use an additive on every fill-up on every diesel I own.
  • This may help with your decision

  • Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations IMO. Health issues are important but Covid concerns doesn’t stop anyone from driving to the county line and back every couple of weeks.
  • I've been using Diesel Kleen in my Duramax for several years. Better performance, better fuel mileage.
  • I've always stored with full fuel & never had any of my coach's sit for more than 4-5 months. Been golden for 20+ years! I also never used a biocide but I do now before I put away for winter. Routine service two years ago showed algae in my filter. What I would do is add a biocide now & use the shock dose. It's better to add while filling to help mix but you don't have that option. Also purchase a couple extra fuel filters to carry. If you find you had no algae that's fantastic. If you did you'll also want to continue adding another additive to clean up the dead algae. Below is the Cummins line up but there are others if you prefer.

That is what I use. No adverse effects whatsoever.
  • take spare fuel filters and enough fuel to fill them with just in case there is crud growing in the tank
