I literally did 6 yrs of research before buying my rig. Sat at the computer/internet 6-7 days a week, sometimes 8 hrs a day, but a good average of 5 hrs a day for sure. The 1st thing I did was learn which my top 5 brands were. I read as many reviews on those brands as possible (from any website), then I came to these RV Websites and read lots and lots of reviews on the various brands. What I noticed is that for some reason, many folks dislike THOR, yet just about all Gassers (forthe last 7-8 yrs) are built on F53 chassis with a V10 triton, Haven't heard too many complaints there, unless your talking to a die hard Workhorse fan or a Cat fan or "Detroit" fan. Most of your diesels if not all (including some of your "Over the top" brands like Newell, Liberty and Foretravel) are all built on Freightliner some offer Spartan as an option. Oh yes and some have Custom specs, nevertheless they are Freightliner. But Again, I didn't hear or read many complaints about the Chassises either. In your Diesels just about all engines are Cummins, If you want to learn about the Cummins Line up go to there website and you can learn about ALL of their Diesel engines and there suggested uses. if you plan on Towing most will tell you to not get a 2500 Allison, but a 3000 and above. I really like the Floorplans of the REV products (Fleetwood, American Coach, Holiday Rambler and Monaco) they're pretty similar and when looking at a Fleetwood and Holiday Rambler DPs they are soo similar if not Identical, it's almost like Looking at the Winnebago and Itasca Dps. Very similar. I was inches away from buying an Endeavor or Discovery, that's a whole lotta bus for not Too much money, But in my Humble (or ignorant) Opinion it's Too much bus for a 360-380 hp engine, So I looked at #4 on my list which was Winnebago (loved the floor plan). After yrs of research I finally (had a Duh moment) figured out that the Big price difference in most Motorhomes is: HP. So I made my must-have for a 40 to 43 ft rig 400+Hp. I'm a perfectionist by nature and when I do things it's almost always "OverKill." So I went with a 450 Hp, used with all kinks worked out, 16K miles super price. So bottom line is, Do your very in depth research So you can Cut out the "middleman," like the salesman. I came on websites like these and read from most of these fulltimers and people with 10+ yrs of rv experienced and made notes of what to do and look for what to buy (for maintenance and gadgets) and insurance and tires and so on. When buying something that'll cost you over 100K, 200K or 300+k, Just be Patient and do your research.
