Are you sure it is a V-10 and not a 460.? I did not think the V-10's came out until 1999.
I was wondering the same thing. On the CA smog certificate it says it's a 10 cylinder (I assume a V10) But you are right, the big block V8 460 was not replaced until 1999. So how did a V10 7.5 end up in a 1996 RV? And is there such a thing? Now I'm wondering if the V-10, that it supposedly has, is better than a 460? I have an E350 15-pax van with the V10 and really like that engine. It has 150K miles on it and it still runs smooth, true and quiet. I did do an OEM tune-up at 100K as required by Ford.

I think the smog certificate is just a clerical error. Perhaps they did a manual override based on input from the owner? Or maybe the shop's VIN decoder didn't fully decode the RV chassis (many shop programs don't fully decode MDT VINs).
The V10 is a far more reliable powerplant, even if the first gen didn't make substantially more power than the 460. But more important is all the other chassis upgrades that happened when the V10 came out.
It's really easy to verify. The 460 has spark plug wires. The V10 doesn't.
