Direct TV to the RV - how easy ?

I take one of the direct receivers from the house and Simply hook it up in the motor home. Just will not get local stations once you leave.

You don't have to add a new receiver to your account, just use the one in the house, unplug it and put it in the RV and hook it up there. But yes, it does have to be an activated receiver, and no you cannot swap cards. They are indexed to their respective receivers.

I also have to do a second satellite set-up when I take my home receiver and use it in the motorhome. You have to go the the set-up area on the menu. There I have to change the dish type to slimeline 5, the switch type to multiswitch, and the input to single.

We just take one out of the house, if they sat to long they will lose signal. than have to take it home and hook it up and after a while IT will come back on, if left turned on.

The BEST THING to do with the Free reciever you got..........on a WINDY DAY..... take it outdide,and use to hold down the Tablecloth.....:W


As stated,do what I do also......take your reciever from the House....plug in to RV......All set.

I take my older receiver, that we use in our kitchen, and connect it to our King Dome(not in transit model) and watch everything but local stations when we travel outside our zip code. I connect two cables to our junction box and that is all I do. Can watch it on our front TV or Bedroom TV of both.

A) No, you can't use any other card with this receiver.
B) Any additional receivers that you activate will incur and additional $6/month fee.
C) You can use that new receiver in your home and your RV and disconnect one of the home receivers to save additional charges or you can throw that receiver away (sell it on E-Bay) and just move one of the receivers in your home between the home and RV as needed.
D) I assume you know that even though you have a DirecTV HD receiver in your RV, your dome is not capable of receiving the DirecTV HD programming so if you activate that receiver your account will be updated to an HD account for an additional $10/month even though you cannot receive it. Some manufacturers (Tiffin comes to mind) put a free receiver in the coach since the wiring Tiffin uses requires and HDMI output and there are more DirecTV customers than Dish customers. That just leaves a series of possible issues that you just have to figure out.

We use the same receivers all the time in the coach. No carrying them back and forth from the stix n brix...oh wait! we are full timers....this is our home...:B:B.....never mind.....Dennis

I have a take out automatic dish(it automatically searches for sat. but is portable) service is with direct tv. worked good before we changed to hd. at home which required changing all the receivers. Kept one of the old receivers for the rv. Now when we travel I have to call and tell them my location, they turn service off at house and program the one in the rv. At least that is what happened when trying to watch 2014 super bowl.

For $6/mo or $72/yr, why hassle with moving and possibly reconfiguring a receiver every time you use the coach? I just pay the $6/mo, set it up once, and forget about it.
