Direct TV

Ok here is a question for all my savy friends. I have a winegard carryout which I would like to use my Direct TV HD DVR receiver with. I know I cannot get HD channels, but would like to record two differant channels. Is this possible, and if so how can I do it?
  • Does your antenna have two outputs? If not then the answer is no!
  • On the back of the DVR you should have 2 coax inputs. Connect the Main from the Winegard to the LNB 1 and the "sec" from the dome to LNB 2. That will allow 2 channel recording. Doug
  • The Winegard website says that the Carryout can support two receivers watching two different channels as long as they are both coming from the same satellite. The website says that for DirecTV the unit toggles between the 101 and 119 satellites, but almost everything you will want will be on the 101.

Presumably, that means that the device has two coax connection for the two receivers. All you would need to do is set the receivers so they know what kind of dish they are connected to and what kind of switch (Round/multiswitch) and you should be set to go. Under Menu/preferences/display set the receiver to "Hide HD Duplicates" since you will only be watching SD.
