DIY install of a LED TV.

Can't picture that in my head. Looking forward to the pictures of the installation.

Maybe I am missing something but that doesn't sound strong enough. I'd put something up to lock it in position bouncing down the road.

I doubt your Knight bounces all that much and the new TV does not weigh over 15lbs and none of that weight is on the latch...all on the two new hinges at the bottom. Because the floor of the box slopes slightly downward we installed the strap that was around the old TV so it will keep items that he puts in the box from pushing on the back of the TV while bouncing down the road. Doubt the massive acceleration of a DP will put 10lbs of force on the latch at the top of the TV... would take a total of 20lbs against the back of the TV.

It only sticks out 1.5" more than the previous so not a concern... that is one of the great things about how thin the LED TVs are plus how little they weigh.

I had not considered repurposing the stand holes for hinges. Interesting idea. It looks easier than some other methods. If I do it, I may try to find a sound bar to fill extra space.

Good idea to use the mounting holes for the feet to help support it. I didn't think of that when I did my install. I might check out my install to see if I can use that for a bit of extra mounting rigidity.

On my gasser, I had a similar wooden surround and cabinets around our CRT TV. Since I whacked my head once or twice on that TV cabinet, and wifey did several times, I removed the entire TV cabinet when upgrading to our LCD TV several years back. This allowed a slightly larger TV to be installed AND removed the head-bonking threat. It also allowed me to install it flush with the ceiling on top to give extra inches of clearance below. I supported it from the ceiling while I added some extra supporting wood braces up there. I have two zip-ties zipped to rings in the ceiling to catch the TV should the main ceiling mount fail. I doubt it will. These new TVs are so light. My install did require some additional woodworking, moulding and stain matching, but overall it came out pretty good. And best of all, NO MORE HEAD BONKS!!!! LOL

Now I'm working on installing a larger TV in motorhome bedroom. I bought a heavy duty swing-out support. But now I'm rethinking that. The dang support arm weighs about twice what the new LCD TV weighs!!! LOL Still much lighter than the original CRT, but I want to screw this one to the wall so it can be moved out of the way. I'm torn between switching to a lighter duty, lighter weight swing-out support or the much heavier one I bought. Decisions, decisions!

As I think of it, though, I might be able to use your idea to use the foot support screws to support the TV when it's stowed against the wall and bouncing down the highway. Food for thought.

Would love to see a shot of the entire front end of the coach with that TV. Pushing limits! I like it!

My brother is 6'7" and surprisingly he does not hit the TV, partly the passenger seat is further back than most and the step well curves towards the rear sooner than most. It would have been impossible to cut the box back on the road as the structure is all aluminum tubing.

In my bedroom I mounted a 21" LED on the ceiling instead of putting a bigger TV where the crt was and put doors on this box for additional storage.

When shopping for a TV, consider one with an external power supply. This will let you get a converter and plug it into the cigarette lighter power supply that is usually in the overhead so you can run the tv without using an inverter or starting the generator.
