I used to have a CDL before retirement and the only difference was the test was a lot longer, the DMV had to inspect the vehicle you were going to drive and they asked questions pertaining to the vehicle operation. Pass a physical and you were set. It really does not make you a better driver. All it does is make it harder by taking a longer test to drive a commercial vehicle.
I forgot, you also have to operate the vehicle with the person giving you the test at your side.
But you have to do that also with an ordinary drivers license. So it is no big deal and it will not make you a better driver. You are what your are and that is it.
