Do I need to carry spare tire?

I don't carry a spare.

Had a blowout and the tow truck brought a 22.5" Michelin XRV with them just as I had requested.

I think they will mount it on your wheel right on site. Best to check in advance with what is covered. Might just be the trip charge and the tire plus mounting will be at a premium list price depending on who actually shows up.

I don't carry a spare! And, if I had one it would be too much for me to handle. It would be a back injury in the making. I would safely pull off the road and either order a pizza or have the DW start some food for a picnic!

Personal choice. Some campers really get out into open spaces that either don't have phone/cell service or emergency services won't travel that far off the road so they carry a complete spare, rim and tire. Others just carry the tire and use their ERS to install.

My one flat the tire guy arrived with a replacement that was the size I needed. Price was a bit more than I would have paid if I was shopping around but that can be difficult on the side of the road on a Friday evening. Removed the old and installed the new all in about 10 minutes. Delay my outing by maybe two or three hours overall. ERS paid for the service and trip charge while I paid for the tire. Just part of the ownership experience.

If you do carry a spare just remember even though it isn't mount it still is aging and won't last forever. At some point you'll need to replace it even if it was never used. At what age, I can't say but I would suspect it might last a bit longer stored in a cool, dry place.

Like Dale Traveler said , breaking lug nuts loose can be a bear.Just have a credit card ready for the road service.They will show up dismount your flat change it out and remount it on the vehicle. You will need to get it balanced at your earliest convenance . If you have a spare they can mount it for you. If you have road side assistance they will find you a tire service.

I carry a spare. It's just another form of insurance. The weight of a spare isn't going to make a difference in fuel consumption.

If you're really concerned about weight, don't travel with the FW tank full or partly full. And always drain your holding tanks before driving.

Road service can bring a tire to mount on your rim. It may or may not be the same type as your other tires. That depends where you are when you break down and what tire stores are open if it is a weekend/Holiday. I carry an unmounted spare just so that I can speed up the whole process and get back on the road. I only have to wait for the road service to show up.

It does depend on the tire size... If it is a common truck tire size then no problem. It's not funny when they laugh at the size you need. If I can buy the right size at a reasonable price then the unmounted spare stays on my roof. If not then it will get me to where I can buy one at a reasonable price

I carry a spare for sure. I can change my own tire long before any help would arrive. That's if I'm even in an area with cell phone coverage. I don't know who I would even call for help really. I assume you have to pay these roadside guys for the privilege of being able to call them. Paying for that and an overpriced replacement tire isn't for me.
