We hauled a spare tire on our alaska trip last summer. 3 months 6200 miles. Do I carry it now, no. Reasons)
In a very remote area you can always get tire service. Might take 24 hours but you can still get service.
If your in a remote area without a spare you could wait days as one is aquired. This may even include air transport, which may or not be covered by your roadside assistance (which everyone should have)
You may also not have a choice. In chicken alaska your Hankook may be days away, but your roadside may only cover the closest tire available. Which might be a Chinese knock off of a Chinese knock off.
As to carrying a mounted spare...the fronts, don't match the backs, and the backs don't either.
For diy
You need a good jack, jack stands, and either a big breaker bar or an air gun, (dps only) or a heavy duty 24v impact wrench, or a big guy named Sweeney to handle the mounted wheel and tire.
If you're interested or in doubt go to the local tire company an try to lift 22.5 without the wheel..yikes
And my spare tire without wheel would not fit in the basement, hauled it in my toad ( 03 Ranger with a shell)
To quote one of my favorite movies "I'm older and have better insurance"

Let's be careful out there
