Do not use awnings in heavy rain?????? Really???

I'm from Oregon and you have to realize rain in the northwest is rarely the heavy rain of the rest of the country! We always.sat out under that awning in the rain in the northwest. Getting 2" in 24 hours was a ton of rain and very rare to have thunderstorms and wind with it !!!! getting 2" in one hour with high winds / thunder then done seems to be the Midwest SE idea of rain ...... awning damaging rain
