How much actual money are you saving by buying a rig with no generator? If you pay some extra for a rig with a generator, you will probably forget the extra expense and find occasional uses for having power to run the roof AC and microwave while at rest stops, when camped at primitive spots with no hookups, or when/if power "browns out" at a KOA, etc., as can happen on a very hot day when everybody is running their roof AC. Generator power is good to have when you go to an airshow or theme park or day at a local park. Bear in mind that the RV generator powers your converter charger which recharges your house batteries when you are not connected to camp AC power. If you decide to have an RV generator installed after buying a rig without one, it may cost you considerably more than buying a rig with one.
