The refrigerator you have now is what is usually found in rv's, except some of the newer ones coming equipped with residential refrigerators. You can run the frig on propane, but you don't have to. If it is cold with cold and frozen food, it will maintain it's temperature or go up just a couple of degrees for 6-8 hours unless you open the door frequently. We travel with ours off and then run it on propane when we stop for lunch for 1/2 hr or so, then travel another 3-4 hours to our destination. Never a problem with the temperature. We do open it at lunchtime to get what we need for our lunch.
The refrigerators of this type( gas/elect) are all either Norcold or Dometic in all rvs whether a trailer, 5th wheel or motorhome.
