- tatestExplorer III'm not doing it yet, but by the time I replace my C with a towable camper the van that pulls it will be a camping van/travel van with sleeping and comfort features; that conversion has been started, and the van is my main means of travel. For most travel, I will notbe towing. Towing is for spotting something on a site in public campgrounds so I have a place to comeback after each day's activities.
Full B motorhome conversions? I've seen them towing utility trailers, boats, pop-up tent trailers, a-frame folders, and small lightweight TTs. The 3/4 ton vans used to build traditional Bs should have 3500-4500 pounds of capacity for towing, even if the RV conversion pushes the van to maximum weight. GCWRs for these vans are often in 12,000 to 15,000 pound range.
Newer lighter unibody vans like Promaster and Sprinter may be a bit more limited once built up as motorhomes, but the Sprinter still has a respectable towing capacity. - buta4ExplorerSportsmobile offers Chevy and Ford Class B with tow/haul mode. Don't know the ratings though.

Which large B would you suggest to tow a TT with?
I think they were suggesting that the OP get a large B or a small C and skip the TT. - My_RoadtrekExplorer

This would let your wife move about a bit, have access to snacks/drinks while on the road, but not have to deal with 2 systems as mkguitar mentions. It would also give you an extra bed if needed.

- mkguitarExplorerI've seen a B pulling a teardrop...bedroom for the kids at night.
a larger trailer doesn't make alot of sense..2 galleys, 2 heads, double the systems
the prime advantages of B's are the fuel economy and ease to drive and park.
Pulling a TT takes that away. occasional use like the teardrop does seem smart if you have a whole gang.
different models have different capacities. my chev will pull 5000# w/ 500# tongue weight.
in terms of real life day to day- we are 2 + 85 pound dog.
Our pleasure-way only has the 2 front seats...which swivel.
we use TV trays and both the included table tops and mast are now stored at home.
we have a fore/aft sleeper ( sideways sleepers are for short people)and just leave the bed made up all the time.
Very common that the dog or whoever isn;t driving is in the back reading, watching TV ( movies on usb stick)or napping ( PBS history of baseball is great for lulling off to sleep)
I'm 6'2" and can move around fine barefoot or flip flops...no thick soled boots
when we land, we usually have campground picnic table plus our folding chairs and awning- so really the elbow room is outside.
life inside a B can be tight, I found the youtube dealer videos of various models made it easy to assess/imagine interior space use
mike - Golden_HVACExplorerI have a used shuttle bus based on the F-450 chassis with the V10 and 4.60:1 rear axle ratio. I have a GVWR of 14,050 pounds and GCVWR of 22,000 pounds. My base weight is only around 8,000 pounds, leaving just over 6,000 pounds for hitch weight and passengers before going over the limit!
I could install a massive hitch and tow just about any travel trailer, that is under 13,000 pounds. . .
However it does ride 'like a lumber wagon' and air suspension would be a requirement if you suffer from back pain. Or good air ride seating, or at least improved seating. I used to work for a city, and they had spring ride seats in the street sweepers. Something like that softens the ride a LOT.
Fred. - englercrExplorerThanks. Riding in the p/u for long periods is taking a toll but if one could stretch out while moving, could make the journey more enjoyable. Thanks again, I'll look into you suggestion.
Chris &Dee - GENECOPExplorer IINot sure if Great West van is still open, but they used to do a nice B and trailer package...I considered a B with a lightweight Casita, or Oliver TT....why not...
