I can't speak to owning a 45' rig. What I can say is that the rig you buy depends on what you want to do. My wife camped as a kid in a truck and camper. Me in a 23' class C. When we had our first child in 1997, we bought a 25' lite weight trailer with two bunks. Then we had a 2nd kid. We kept the trailer. Then we had the 3rd kid. We traded for a 31' Jayco trailer with 3 bunks. The kids got older, and bigger, we traded for a 31' Jayco class C. My Father passed away and my mom wanted to camp with us. And our kids got bigger. We traded to a 35' class A Tiffin. My Mom has since passed and the boys are outgrowing the bunks. And the boys leave us to sleep in a tent or a trailer when we go out riding most of the time. But, I need to sleep everyone inside if we pull off at a WM to catch some sleep.
I have a 36' limit to be able to park the motorhome at our house. Retirement is at least 10 years away. So, I see two more motorhome purchases in my future. The first in a year or two, that will last 8 years or so. And then a two person retirement rig that me and the wife can travel the country in. These will not necessarily be new purchases.
I don't see how you buy your "last rig first". Needs change. Life changes.
Good luck.
