For us, we always ended up at 39' - 42' that gave us the room and floor plans we wanted. Our MH is 42'. There is no way we would want to give up that space. To go to say around 36' would eliminate our bedroom for the most part.
We enjoy the extra room. We don't full time and would not live in less if we were. You don't need to spend a fortune to get a 42' DP (new). But if cash weren't a issue we would probably have a 45'. Boondocking or small campgrounds aren't what we like anymore, so getting into the parks we like aren't a problem either.
