On my Tropical the brake lights do come on with the exhaust brake, but I would rather they not come on. Going down long grades the exhaust brake is maintaining a speed and not slowing you down. So my brake lights tend to stay on all the way down the grade and when I do need to hit the brakes to slow down more, there is no warning to anybody following me that I'm going to slow more.
