I have a commercial Class A license and, to the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as an air brake endorsement. There is only an air brake restriction if you are not allowed to operate a vehicle with air brakes (most likely because you took the driving test in a vehicle that did not have air brakes).
It's true that many people driving RVs with air brakes have no idea how the system works beyond the fact that it stops when they step on the brake pedal. But how many people driving RVs with hydraulic brakes have any idea how their brake systems work? Why is there no outrage over that?
Many computer operators don't know how they work either. - Sully2ExplorerNo special endorsement in Ohio for an RV with air brakes.
- Tom_BarbExplorer IIWashington state has no special requirements to operate any privately owned vehicle. No mater how much it weighs or what type of brakes it has.
And we like it that way, because there are no accident stats to prove we need training on how to push down on a pedal. - Tom_AndersonExplorerI have a commercial Class A license and, to the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as an air brake endorsement. If you're referring to just an RV then I have to say that MI has no endorsement on air brakes. There are a couple of states that do. I believe CA is one of them. Personally I think anyone with an air brake equipped RV should have an endorsement. It's not a bad idea for anyone driving any type of motorized RV to have a special license in my opinion. I have seen people out there that don't have a clue as to what they're doing.
I have an air brake endorsement in Michigan. It is not listed on your CDL but if you don't have one it will be noted. My license is for driving a bus.
Maybe endorsement is the wrong word. It probably should have been asked if it was a requirement.(or at least that's the way I took the question) As I said RV's are not required but obviously if your driving a truck or bus they would be. - BobGedExplorerFrom what I have read I believe most Canadian provinces require an air brake endorsement. In the US there are states such as CA and ID that don't even require a special driver's license to operate a coach weighing 26,001+ lbs, let alone issue an air brake endorsement.
I reside in NV and while I have a non commercial Class B and was tested on my air brake knowledge, I was not issued an endorsement.
Bottom line is an air brake endorsement and/or special license requirements vary by state. - katoomerExplorerBritish Columbia requires an air brake endorsement
- doxiemom11Explorer III don't think any endorsement makes a difference. The people who will drive in erratic ways, tailgate and speed will keep doing it with or without the endorsement. Bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what they are behind the wheel of.
- WyoTravelerExplorerI can give you a very good reason that an air brake endorsement should be needed. I recenty saw posts on this forum about disconnecting the alarm because it was noisy. Others disconnecting the alarm because it scared the dog.
You are right though. Push that pedal next to the "GO" pedal & the MH should stop.
