Doghouse

In my MH there is a doghouse containing the engine between the driver and passenger seats. When the engine heats up it gets very hot around the legs area up front. I took it off to look at it and it only has very thin insulation with a thin layer of tin or aluminum foil over top of it.
I am wondering if it would be wise to put foil tape around on the inside to prevent so much heat from coming through it into the cab. The tape is very sticky. Will the glue on the back of the tape hold up under this kind of extreme heat? Has anyone out there tried this?
  • Gargamel - Can you tell if it is the entire doghouse that is getting hot or is it just near the floor on either the passenger, or driver, or both sides? More than once someone discovered they were not replacing the doghouse the correct way. Sometimes the edge fits into a groove.

From appearance, your RV could be a Dodge. If it is, you might want to visit this thread - How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's and read some of the comments or ask a question there.
  • It is a Dodge. 78 Jamboree Rallye. Made by Fleetwood I believe. I decided to just foil tape the bajeezus out of it. It seems to be sticking very well. Just not sure how many layers I'll need before it actually makes a difference... Thanks for the advice!
  • id keep a close eye on it , you dont want it falling off and getting on the manifold and potentially causing a fire

When I first bought my MH the dog house was very hot and killed spark plug wires, and melted the plastic connectors for the fan and temp gauge in the heads. After installing headers and 10.4 mm ign wires most of the overheating problems went away but my foot would still get hot next to the dog house. I bought some 1/2 in thick jute felt insulation with Al foil on one side from HD for about $20 and used Weldwood contact adhesive to bond this second layer of insulation to the inside of the dog house. Not only did it reduce the heat but also reduced the sound of the eng when climbing long hills. You will pay much more for Dynamat or these other car insulation .
