Has anyone found a suitable replacement of the gas strut on an over the door dometic awning. Dometic wants $200 for each side as they will only sell it with the arm assembly. I'm looking to only replace the little gas strut. My awning only will go out lop sided unless I give it a helping hand.

Google "gas struts". Lot's of them available. Perhaps one will work.

I appreciate the replies, but the gas strut on the over the door awning is real short about 8" and it has like a t-bar fitting on the base. It doesn't seem to be removable, so a universal strut will not work. I was hoping someone already crossed this path and found a solution.

They're 25" long when fully extended. They came off of a Dometic power awning that I had to replace after a collision.

look at those flat sides on the end pieces
thats for a wrench
those things are threaded onto ends of the strut

What Mr Wizard said- don't remove the end fittings from the arms, unscrew the gas spring from the fittings. Use loctite blue on the replacement.

Ok how do I figure how many lbs I need. The rest of the dimensions I can get.
