If you're taking out a residential fridge and putting in another, yes, it's as simple as taking out one and putting in the other. Now if you're swapping out the Norcold or Demetic with a residential fridge then yes, you need to do other stuff. To help you better please provide a little more info..

1. Model of fridge you want to remove.
2. Model of fridge you want to replace it with.

Most folks replace the Norcold 1200 with the Samsung 197. There's tons of info on that swap, here, youtube and other sites.

The RV tech is correct in what he's telling you, sort of... If you only camp with electrical hookups, then you won't need additional batteries.....Dennis

Your inverter needs to be large enough to start the compressor. That is much larger than the amount needed to run the compressor after it starts. The Samsung 197 consumes about 4.25 amps. 445KW/365. I'm not sure about starting current. Guessing, maybe 5 to 10 times that amount until comressor starts.

The people I know don't run off their inverter. Only shore power or generator. Refer will stay cold for hours if traveling.

Just depends on how you want to use it.

I'm removing a Dometic and want to put in a residental. I'm told the Samsung 17.3 cu ft is the correct size. I have a 2000 watt invertor and 4 batterties. We rearly park unhooked (except one night or so at Wal Mart) so no boondocking. I'm just tired of the ice buildup and defrosting. Hope this gives everyone more info.

I'm also now thinking of replacing my Dometic NDR 1292 with the Samsung 197. Just went to check the coach for a trip tomorrow, and the fridge was off. Checked the breaker and fuses, all OK. Still have a few more things to check before I pronounce it DEAD. Will be 2nd time it's died in 3 years. Last time I still had my service contract, so all I paid was the $200 deductible.

It's dark and 31 degs, so I'll wait to tomorrow. If it's really dead, then we can still go, will use my 12 cuft garage fridge for the week-end.

If I get a Samsung 197 installed, I plan to install a small inverter, since I don't already have one. I think my current house batteries should be able to cover that inverter with the Samsung plugged into it. I'm just hoping I can get that Samsung in thru the door, and not have to take a windshield out.

I did the switch, ditched the Not-So-Cold and installed the Samsung 197 and yes my inverter is on all the time at home and going down the road. Yes I did change out the inverter and installed a Magnum 2812 PSW but the Samsung 197 will run fine on the MSW 2000W. I just wanted to do it right all at one time and I have (4) 6v batteries. Going down the road the motor will charge the house batteries. The only thing I will be doing is installing an Auto-Genset start, if the batteries get to low when setting for a long time the genset will start and charge them back up then shut down.

The 2000 and the 4 batteries are MORE than enough to run a Residential refer. Remember (a lot of people forget this), the Residential does NOT run all the time and due to the better insulation will not run that much to get to temp and keep that temp. A 1500 watt inverter is more than enough for a residential refer. Doug

I concur. Your inverter is fine and you have enough batteries. My only recomendstion would be to add a couple of 160 watt panels. We dry camp for weeks on end with a residential 22 cubic foot fridge. We have a large solar array which helps. Even before we switched to the residential we were in the habit of running our genny in the morning when we made breakfast for things like the microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. We also run it for an hour at supper time. That seems to be enough to keep the batts up.
