dometic switches

Ok guys a little help on this one My Dometic rm763 aes still won't turn on with any of the three sources 120v, gas lp or the 12v From reading many of the useful forums on here I understand this unit always needs the 12v to be connected to run on any source got that and know my problem is the person before me owning this unit has removed the main on/off switch on the front of the unit and there is a after market ( I'm guessing) switch on the dash that reads when flipped the left 110v/lp and flipped to the right reads automatic threeway witch does work as far as I can tell and even if it did wouldn't I still need the main on the front of the unit? and if so would it be aftermarket or from an rv junk yard if there is such a thing !

very thankful for any help or suggestons..

  • Thank you J-D but as far as I can tell the unit it's self has barley been used nearly new inside and out this unit a 78 Jamboree has only 56000 miles on it the onan generator only had 42 hrs on it the whole inside is pretty new from where and tare it's just been stored a lot and hardly used so this is what has me puzzeled on the frig.I got everything working with a little elbow grease except the fridg unit is there a way to by-pass the on/off switch?

    www.bryantrv.com should also have it.

If you suspect the switch (in this case the PO's replacement) about all I can say is good luck. Troubleshooting the OEM switch is bad enough. Trying to interpret somebody's patchwork is going to be worse.

The switch is a multiple pole switch. Its normal operation is On and Off. In Off, it still makes up some circuits. A switch from Dometic included the ribbon cable going to the logic board and it was all wired up at the multiple poles of the switch. Switch itself could probably be found at an electronics supply house.

I junked our RM 763 in 2004 and parts were hard to get before that. I'd be surprised if anybody can get the switch. Logic board, sure, thanks to Dinosaur Electronics. Last year, I sold all my leftover parts to a man in Texas. Logic board, which was what he needed at the moment, switch, gas valve and a few other misc. items.

There are some 763s out there running, and some of those have rebuilt cooling units. I realize the box itself is nothing but a big cooler. Then the rest of it consists of three other major components - Cooling Unit, Gas Valve, and Controls (mostly Logic Board). So sure, you can keep the Box, change out the Cooling Unit, and work on the Gas and Controls. But some of those parts are no longer available. Also, I found many unreliable connections due to corrosion. After spending a few hundred on it, I gave up on the 763. So to my way of looking at it, 763s, approaching 30 years old, aren't worth trying to keep running.
  • ok rather weird yes but what else would you like to know ?
