Not mad at you just amused. While you are pontificating that "she was in panic mode and did not apply brakes." you do not seem any more prepared than she, as all the experts and 18 wheel drivers say, accelerate FIRST, to straighten out the motorhome before you slow down and move to the side. Know what you are talking about before you try to sound so judgemental.
This is absolutely horrible.....Iam so sad.....all those people injured too
Unless a woman has driven an 18 wheeler I don't think she should be behind the wheel of an A and a lot of guys either.
A blown front tire is bad for anybody....doesn't look like it tore the wheel from her.....she was in panic
mode and didn't apply the brakes....mostly likely in cruise control..... Don't be mad at me people but according to what Ive seen this is my position. - More_To_SeeExplorerAny possibility at all leaving the road perhaps caused the blowout?

Maybe she floored it to regain control, just like the instructions say, but never regained control. It really depends on what happened to the tire. If the tire stayed on the rim, one could regain control, but it would be just as easy for the tire to come off the rim and get wedged and cause loss of steering completely. Could have even ripped a brake line. Not enough info to judge anything, but some people tink they know everything, even wit a small glimpse into what happened.
I agree Dave. Nobody can say for sure because the person at the wheel can't explain what happened.
As for drivers, gender has nothing to do with it. Driving ability varies for both. It may very well be that she was the better of the two. It was all over in seconds thats for sure. The maybes and what ifs are only guesses. - RayChezExplorerLot of speculation as to what happened. But it really does not matter now as to what really happen. The thing is that it is tragic that people had to lose their lives on what was suppose to be a happy occasion. Our prayers go with the family.
- CarlGeoExplorerMy first reaction is the cruise control was engaged and the driver could not or did not disengage it. To travel the distance from the freeway the vehicle had to be under power.
Would be interested to know if the vehicle had a steering dampened, (Safe-T-Plus) or similar unit installed?
Very sad event, and prayers are with the families.

Also the dirt area that was crossed is dry loose dirt and gravel and a slight down hill coming down off the highway, so trying to slow a heavy coach on that loose surface without locking it up and possibly rolling would have been difficult at best.
And... you cover 300' in about 4 seconds at that speed! Think about it.
I would assume that a person would automatically slam on the brakes if possible, without worrying about rolling, etc. perhaps a heart attack is indicated.

Just fyi about the health problem as a cause... witnesses saw and heard the right front tire blow and send it off the highway at speed.
yep, but if she had a weak heart, it could have triggered something.

bumpy - topflite51ExplorerThe accident was a tragedy.
All the amateur accident investigators around here make me want to laugh. The OP'er had it right:
Don't know what happened but it's bad. - MarcWExplorerJust fyi about the health problem as a cause... witnesses saw and heard the right front tire blow and send it off the highway at speed. When it was on the tow truck, I could see it clearly had a catastrophic failure of that tire with tread missing and large rip with shredded cord showing.
