We are also in our mid 70's and still enjoy actually camping in the NATL FOREST areas around here in VA-WVA-NC-TN-GA-AL high country and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Never was a MOTORHOME RV TRAVELER much persay...
We have the OFF-ROAD POPUP CAMPER setup and alot of times just load up the 4X4 truck and utility trailer with our three room tent setup and head for the mtns for the week... We can stay out a very long time running off the batteries and doing the daily three hour 2KW generator re-charge and have all the modern things with us to play with.
Love the high country in the woods...
I will say however this type of camping is starting to get more crowded off the power grid and maybe not the safest place anymore for a couple in their mid 70's. Almost have to sleep with one eye opened these days... Never use to worry about any of that camping lifestyle way back off the trails from the early 50's when we lived out West in Arizona. Times are truly changing now...
