Help me understand something. If a DP has 300hp and a 6 speed transmission will it out pull a Gas A with 362hp and a 5 speed tranny if both were pulling the same amount of weight?
I asked this because I just attended the Kansas City RV show over the weekend and this was what I was told. They also said if you get a gasser much over 34’ it really struggles when towing a toad.
More torque at low rpm is the DP advantage for towing or just a larger MH. Once going the gas MH will be faster up a hill as the weight/hp ratio is better. But the flat torque curve of the diesel gets it going from a dead stop better which is really important if you stop while going up hill.
The other issue is the gas engine will lose roughly 3% hp/1000 ft of elevation as the air gets thinner. DP has a turbo and does not lose hp with elevation.
Gas MHs do better under 35 ft for these reasons. But with the right size and right toad gas MHs do very well and can be as fast or faster if not overburdened.
