A dp at 100k miles has just been broken in and is ready to go for a couple hundred thousand more miles. There may be more maintenance cost to a dp but it will more than out last a gasser any day. Why do you think you don't see big gas engines in an 18 wheeler.
The Ford V10 and the GM 8.1 are both rated at 200,000-250,000 miles. There are millions of those two gas engines produced and in various trucks. Find one instance on this forum where someone has worn out their gas engine. Then look for the number of people that have had major expensive repairs on their DP.
