Dragging up driveway

Just bought a 2004 Itasca Sunova 33L and it drags the rear skid plate when I take it up my driveway. It's not real bad but it does leave a pretty good mark on the road. I'm considering the ride-rite add on air bags for the rear only but I also found some casters at Tractor Supply that I could bolt on the trailer hitch. They're rated at 700 pounds and swivel.

Casters

I was thinking about trying these casters. I can remove the factory skid plates and bolt these casters to the hitch with U clamps.

The RV just drags a little so I'm thinking these might be just enough to fix the issue.

Am I on the right track or wasting time? Should I just get my wallet out and do the bags? Is there another option I'm missing?

  • Casters can do a lot of damage to your coach. The frame is not meant to support a lot of the coach's weight at the end of the frame rail (or something bolted or welded to it).

My first though would be to use boards over the low spot so that you do not drag. Easier and less expensive than air bags or casters.
  • My only concern with the casters is how much weight is actually put on them going up the driveway.

The other choice, which might be the cheapest, is to put down some boards at the lowest point so that the rear wheels will stay higher. Just a thought.

    Good luck,
    MM.
