Drawer sliders keep breaking

In the back of my drawers where the slider connects to the wall there is a plastic piece that is attached to the wall and the slider attaches to this. Over time these plastic pieces break, due to weight in the drawer and road bumps.
I have replaced over 20 of these and they are a real PITA.

Has anyone found a replacement part made of of metal ?
Or have you replaced the sliders with something that is more sturdy ?

Let me know.

You can screw a small wooden support block under the plastic piece to help absorb some of the weight and prevent the rear of the slide from moving down until it breaks the plastic piece.
Naturally you could change to heavier hardware if you want to.

That's what I did on our fifth wheel.

  • For slides check "accuride" And or "Rockler" wood working websites
  • No, they didn't lock - I didn't know there was such an item. We installed additional drawer latches of the original types so that there were two on every drawer.

  • You won't get any better quality slides from home depot than anything else they sell.
Google a cabinet shop supply place in your area and tell them you want self closing, full extension slides. If you get a name brand, such as accuride, they will be worth the price difference.

Trackrig, did the drawer slides you got from HD lock in place when shut ?
If yes do you have anymore info on these parts ?
  • Yes, we replaced all of our drawer slides with new heavy duty ball bearing, fully extending slides from HD. The originals weren't very good. We found a small cabinet shop to do the work as some extra wood had to be added inside of the cabinets to mount the new slides. The two hours it took him was well worth it so I didn't have to work in those small spaces.
