Experience is the best remedy. We have all gotten ourselves into some difficult positions at one time or another. Mostly due to a lack of pre-planning. Sometimes due to just not knowing where we are going to end up at.
First year we flat towed the Silverado we stopped at a larger shopping plaza for dinner about 75 miles from home. It was winter time and we parked far enough away from all other vehicles that I was sure no one would block us in when we were ready to leave. Obviously a bad assumption on my part. When we returned to leave people had parked on both sides of us, and just far enough forward that we couldn't pull ahead and swing to get out. Probably lacked about 18 inches to make the swing.
I got out and assessed the situation and decided that I would just back out and could accomplish that fairly easily. Like everyone else I had heard all of the stories about how you can't back up when towing. I sent the DW back to the toad and told her just sit there and keep the wheels from turning either way. I'm just coming back in a straight line for about 60-70 feet. She did as I asked and all worked as expected. Two minutes and we were free to go on our way.
Moral of the story, we all do stupid things at times and sometimes we can overcome them and other times we are just going to have to live with our stupidity. Get out there and enjoy and try not to be your own worst problem.
