Driving from NYC to Fargo,ND

Hi to all. Planning to go to Fargo,ND in August. Any advice as to go north I-39/I90/94 thru Minniapolis or stay on I-80 after Chicago to I-29n to Fargo would help. Also any interesting sights along the way. Have a great summer and KEEP ON TRUCKING,OILCAN
  • 94 thru MPLS will be faster. Just don't go thru during rush hour traffic. Time it so you're between 9Am and 4pm. should be no problem.
    Have a great trip.
  • Take a look at I80 to I75N cross Mackinaw bridge, pick up route 2W then figure it out from there.Keeps you out of Chicago traffic, not the fastest but certainly the most scenic and relaxing
  • For interesting sights do Google searches for `_______ tourism' and put the area, town, state in the blank space and read what the experts recommend for their location.
  • If you are really from NYC, you have an advantage you can decide whether or not you choose to use.

First, if you don't mind the tolls, just run I-80/90 to I-94 about Gary/Chicago. That is simplest. As a refugee from that same megopolis, I can tell you that Chicago traffic will not be more than you can handle.

If you don't want to deal with Chicago, running I-94 out to I-39 to go north works well, and we do that if we are at a bad time for Chicago traffic.

This is not we would do (have done) because we avoid tolls (tolls - too many wheels).

    Matt
  • Taking I-94 thru Wisconsin to Minneapolis will be your best bet. Look at a map, when you cross into MN on 94, you go about 15 miles and then have an option to go I-694 which goes north, then west. It loops around the city so you miss downtown traffic. On the northwest edge of the "circle" you catch 94 again and head north to Fargo.
  • Thanks to everyone for the info on our Fargo road our daughter cant wait to see us. anyone know any funky roadside attractions along the way, like the big blue bug on 95 by Providence,RI. Many thanks OILCAN.
