Driving I65 South to Nashville

Drove coach down to visit my Daughter and son in law for a week and I 69 south and I65 South had a lot of work going on.Lots of it so if we have some early Snow Birds going south just thought I would give you a heads up on the war zone.
  • That 'war zone' needed alot. We did it to Mobile last January and thought we were going to be beat to death. Some stretches through KY were great however.
  • Drove that route to FL and back in the spring. Say what you want about MI roads but the interstates around Indianapolis are horrible. Louisville and Nashville aren't a lot better.
  • I don't know all the details, but it appears that interstate sections between cities are maintained by the states and federal funds. In and around cities, maintenance is mostly local funds. Local funds are not used to maintain interstates until they become impassable for the local officials. When one of them gets delayed, or blows a tire in a pothole, then and only then will minor repairs be made.
  • BTW,, I65 north and south of Nashville has been under construction for at least 50 years. In that time, I have never seen it without some new construction going on. It will never be a finished product.
  • We take the motorhome to Indy every year and our shortest, most convenient route is I-65 from the north. For the past several years, we have taken an alternate route because I-65 is unbelievably bad.
