When traveling, how many hours per day do you drive before you lay up for a rest period?

One thing I experienced over the years if you want to cover long distance >>> get up at 6 AM and start driving. I leave with no breakfast that I make later at first stop about 9 AM and plan end driving about 6 PM.
This way you arrive at the end stop during the day and will not have to deal with closed doors and gates.
