Driving to las vegas, nv from sacramento, ca

I have done both ways many times. I too prefer the US95 route down through Nevada but it might take a little take longer. As for the "big hills" you will encounter many of them in the west and you shouldn't have any problems with them as long as your rig is properly maintained.
