Dual battery in 5th wheel

I am leaving soon to go on a trip out west from Florida, and wanted to connect a second battery in Parallel to the existing battery i have in the unit. Is this OK to do? does it effect the charging? Should I just carry the spare battery not connected and switch if I need to?
Thanks in advance for the help on this.

  • This is what is balanced and best for twin twelve volt batteries.

As it often doesn't cost a dime more to do this, I think it is worth the trouble.

If you wish to understand the "why" surf here:

correctly interconnecting multiple twelve volt batteries

Others may say it doesn't matter--but unless there is a compelling reason to not optimize charging and discharging why not do it the best possible way?
  • On practical side, the only difference paralleling batteries of different age/typ makes is storage.
Left alone for long time the weaker battery can take better battery down, so they should be disconnected.
During normal charge/discharge life all the batteries will take or give.

    I agree.
It's best if the batteries are the same type and age but they will still play well together even if they're not "matched".
