Dual Prpane Tannk Question

99 FLEETWOD DISCOVERY disel with 2 propane tanks, has anyone ever install a switch to have one tank supply the other when it gets low? I have an extended stay for the main tank, but am interested in providing extra supply for the tank that supplies the generator. I am having difficulty with my alternator and have to run generator more often until the alternator situatin is solved.

  • If the generator uses its own regulator setup connected to a liquid withdrawal port on the tank, tying the tanks together may not be quite as easy as connecting an auto-changeover vapor regulator setup. I would check with an LP professional.
  • Propane is propane. Should not be an issue to use a standard automatic RV regulator. If you have a propane generator you may need a high flow regulator. If the distance to connect the tanks is greater than 60" you will need a red high pressure regulator to reduce pressure in the connection hose.

If you have a choice I recommend Cavagna brand regulators. (amazon)
  • On Discovery Owner's Association I saw a write up on doing this and it was on a 1999 Discovery. I should have saved it because I have never been able to find it again. That being said I took mine to the local Suburban Propane Co. and the tech said it would be no problem to tie them together with a short hose and a few fittings. I decided to wait to have it done and see if I would run short on propane and so far haven't needed it.
