dump valves

My black tank dump valve is really hard to open and close now. How can I service it? I hope I don't have to remove it.
Thanks
  • Just did mine on my Minnie... Not a fun job, wear some long waterproof gloves and just change her out. or pay someone to do it... i think I will next time lol

    What should Catholics do?
  • If you can, let the tank dry out for a week or more before changing the valve. That really makes it a cleaner job.
  • Changing the blade is relatively easy. Remember, you DO NOT change the whole valve, just the blade. 4 bolts, two gaskets and a lot of plumbers grease. Drain and thoroughly flush the tank. Then unbolt the blade assembly, pull the two halves apart, slide the old blade assembly out. Clean the mating surfaces, grease liberaly, and install the new blade assy. Be careful to tighten the four bolts evenly. Otherwise you will have a leak. And dont over tighten them either. Once done, test by dumping 5 to 10 gallons of water in the tank and check for leaks.

I added a grease fitting to mine and give it a shot of grease every other year or so. The black valve always seems to stick more than the grey one.

  • Replacing it isn't that bad. If put in a new one if it's questionable.
