Dumping Holding Tanks - RESOLVED

I read all of the suggestions provided by members. Based on that, I filled the tanks completely to make sure there was, in fact, water in the tanks. I then, located the manual crank in the Roadtrek Manual and found it under the motor home. Turned it a few cranks.

I then went to the dump station, and the system worked beautifully. Tanks are now empty for the winter. Just have to add anti freeze to the tanks and my winterizing is over.

Don't know what did it but thanks to the members for giving me some ideas on how to proceed.
  • I had already winterized the water lines. Drained water through the low point drain, then blew out as much water as I could get out of it. I believe the lines are fairly dry. Placed antifreeze into the water tanks(couldn't figure how to get it directly through the water pump. Turned each tap on until antifreeze came out. So I think I have that covered, however will recheck the hot water lines to be sure.

I have additional antifreeze to put into the waste holding tanks when I get the motor home to the storage area and will also put some down the trap. I did read about the macerator and would never have thought of that.

Thanks all for the help. Hope spring comes early this year.
  • Great to hear that you got this resolved. The tanks are the least of what you have to winterize on a Roadtrek. You need to get RV antifreeze into all of the pipes, valves, faucets, toilet valve, 2 traps, showers --- all hot and cold lines. If the fresh tank is empty that is all it needs. Put some RV Antifreeze down the black tank to prevent it from going dry over the winter. Put some also in the grey tank. Run some through the macerator. All of this will freeze and do damage with even just a little water left in the lines.
  • Not sure if it applies to your rv, but don't forget inside AND outside shower (and drain), sink sprayer, toilet sprayer, toilet, washing machine, etc.

  • Anti freeze in the traps - a good idea. I still have a gallon left.
  • Yes, thanks for the update.
You may want to pour a little more antifreeze in your traps.
It may have bounced out while driving to the dump station.
