dumping without a hose?

So, while visiting Hershey this past weekend I cam across something I thought was odd. For those who have not been there the dump station has 2 connections side by side. I pulled up to the left, hooked up my hoses and did my business. The guy on the other side in a TT had his rig pulled up to the inlet. The inlet, like many has the cover in sort of a trough. Obviously to prevent overflow if a mishap should occur. Anyway on the other side of my rig the smell was awful. I walk around to find this guy dumping with no hose. Just a full on waterfall of raw sewage in the trough and he was "guiding" into the drain with what else? A stick. I was like wha???. Not only is it disgusting, but think about the next poor soul who has to hook up to that. Has anyone ever seen this before? I try and give folks the benefit of the doubt. Maybe his hose broke. But the camp store is a hundred yards away. I have no idea what that was about but I considered reporting him on my exit. Anyone ever see this?

  • I saw it at Bulow Resort once. Called the office while he was doing it.
They came out and read him the riot act, threatened to call the police.
Guy said it was a new camper and hadn't bought a hose yet.
  • Gross! I'll wager every surface within 20 yards of the dump station is well coated with enteric bacteria.

I was at a state park in Kansas and the guy ahead of me was not using a hose. When he left and I pulled up the dump station, it was unlike any I had ever seen. It was an open pit with a grate over it. There was no place to put the hose. I did like him, dumped without a hose. The pit was designed that way.

You sure Wouldn't want to drop your keys.:B
  • Iwould never do it, but in my years of RV'ing, I've seen enough people do it to believe that it is common practice for some RV'ers.

You are right, maybe his hose broke. Did you offer the use of your hose?

He could have been a newbie and thought that was the way you emptied the tanks.

I have a built in macerator so no slinky. Not sure I would offer my hose to someone else anyway, but I don't have a traditional hose.
  • While working at a rest area, the wife said she saw a group of trailer pull in a dump, without hoses. However, the last one cleaned up around the dump station.
  • Take his picture and post it. :)
I would have asked him why he didn't use a hose.
