When you cut it on do you hear the compressor cut in? Cut it from fan to cool and see if the compressor is cutting on. If not it could be a capacitor. If not than the compressor could be shot which means a new AC unit. The good news is that they are easy to replace, just heavy to get up on the roof. I have done four of them all by my lonesome but, I don't recommend it. Get a friend to help you get the new one up on the roof and the rest is easy. You can just throw the old one off and not worry about it bending a little. Of course the wiring is already there so, it's a no brainer. The last one I bought and installed was a scratch -n- dent duotherm that works awesome. I think I bought it from PPL. It had a dent in the bottom pan that doesn't affect the performance at all.
