I was where you are now about a year ago,what I did was buy an old slide-in camper for a pickup truck and reuse what I needed in my van.
I spent $200 to buy it and the guy brought it to my house,later he took it back to sell the jacks that hold it up to put it on the truck.I would suggest you spend more than I did and get a newer one perhaps with water damage or an accident .When you scrap one out you learn a lot about how they're built,wiring,plumbing,gas lines,etc.
The bonus is all the fittings,clamps,hinges,knobs,wire,cabinets with doors,propane tank with fittings,etc,etc.Food for thought?
