Excellent idea. And then do go camping or whatever close by for short time and you will quickly learn what you need and cant do without, what may be nice but unnecessary.
I visit friends and relatives with my RVan in addition to camping. My visits are "guest lite" in that they dont need to even clean their guest room. My dogs stay in the van and dont need to mix with theirs. They dont even need to provide me with meals or entertainment. We can sit and visit for a few hours a day and then are on our own. All I need is a place to plug into electricity and get some water if needed.
Every trip I tweak my RVan a bit more and because nothing was expensive or permanently installed I have no compunction about moving it, removing it and/or putting something else in.
