I am trying to get an idea of how much I should plan to spend for a conversion (ballpark figure). I plan to buy a used high top long bed empty cargo van. I have a place I can do the work and the tools (at a friends house). The estimate I am looking for is for parts only. I will likely hire my friend to work it and teach me as well. Here are the two builds I am looking at.
Build 1 (ideal): sleeps 1, internal shower + toilet, a/c + heat, microwave, stove, sink, lights, power receptacle, dry dockable with solar (7 days).

If you work FULL TIME and KNOW how to do carpentry, electrical and plumbing you might get this built in about 6 months to a year..
Windows can be found second hand el cheapo most anyplace,,holding tanks Id prefer to buy brand new,to make sure they don't leak..simple 12 v cooler starts about 450$..me thinks thats all you'd need going solo..
Best/easiest way to insulate metal van is to spray expanding foam on,,last time I checked they charge about 6$ per square foot,,might be different in your location,,ask around..
Even if you buy all appliances new,,your rig will come out cheaper in the long run then one bought from a dealer,,IF you do most work yourself!!
Is your friend willing to help for free?
Normal van is bit small cramped imo,,U Haul van would be best, but get worse mpg most likely as its bit too square..
For all the prices on solar panels, apliaences and all theres wwweb!use it..
do your research first,then decide..
